So there are two dates that are good for running the server update this month, allowing extra time for any unexpected challenges during the process.

Nov 20th gives only about a week for members to receive a forewarning and doing any desired preparations. However, it will mean we'll be updated in time for Thanksgiving week (US holiday), when many people have more free time.

Nov 30th means the server will remain on 1.12 through Thanksgiving and put us at the very end of November, but there will be more opportunity for people to get news about the server update and have a chance to log in before it happens.


Whichever day the update is done on, the process will start around the time of the regular morning restart. While the jump from 1.12 to 1.16 may pose some configuration challenges, I'd estimate that the server should be back to a stable state within 6-8 hours and part of that is just attempting to test whether things are reasonably functional.

I am for the earlier date as to give players more opportunity to use 1.16 blocks for the Holidays of December Build contest (which I intended on announcing mid-November. Of course we could just go back to 1.6 when horses were added, I am sure that would be a real draw.
